Casey James Puterbaugh Memorial Scholarship - Casey James Puterbaugh was full of life and would not have liked striking out on its ball field when he didn’t wake up one morning in July 2018. At age 32, he loved life, laughing, talking, his older brother and parents, his yellow lab Dodger, baking bread, defending the downtrodden, and baseball. Growing up, he dabbled briefly in basketball and football, played soccer and golf, but came alive in baseball as a big lefty pitcher and first-baseman.
After attending Bridlemile Elementary School and West Sylvan Middle School, he was dubbed “swashbuckling” by friends at Jesuit High School, where he played baseball four years and, during his senior year, was 1st Team All-Metro and won Jesuit’s team Sportsmanship Award.
In 2002 he joined the Ringor baseball team for three years. In 2003 the team took the Senior Babe Ruth regional championship and placed fourth in the Senior Babe Ruth World Series.
Casey worked in grocery stores, restaurants, the golf industry, a law firm, volunteered in New Zealand and Ecuador, and dreamed of becoming a policeman.
His brother Rex said it best: “He was 100% Casey.” And he would have loved helping a budding baseball player get in the game. The Puterbaughs and their extended family have generously contributed to create a scholarship fund in Casey's honor to allow other players to experience little league no matter their financial situation.
